Art Week 12-18 March 2017

MARTIN-BROWNE-CONTEMPORARY-

Art Week 12 – 18 March

Are you ready for the most exciting and interesting week of the year dedicated to culture, art and design? It’s time to organize your weekly calendar to not miss the events scheduled!

Art Dubai

Art Dubai

Art Week, initiated by Art Dubai Group and supported by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Meraas is the region’s largest cultural festival taking place each March. Concurrent events occurring between 12 – 18 March 2017 span from the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar to the 13th edition of the Sharjah Biennial, with a flurry of cultural activities in institutions, universities, commercial galleries, hotels and outdoor public spaces across the key cities of Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai and Sharjah.

The 11th edition of Art Dubai is the week’s anchor event, taking place as always at the Madinat Jumeirah. The 6th edition of Design Days Dubai moves to a new location in Dubai Design District (d3), highlighting the rise of d3 as a new destination where dozens of exciting new concepts have opened in recent months. Following its recent expansion, Alserkal Avenue is now home to over 70 creative spaces and this Art Week sees the launch of its multi-purpose events space Concrete and several pop-up events such as the region’s first art book fair.

Some key themes run across different platforms, bringing continuity to the week’s programming and enriching the visitor experience. Performance art is the focus of the Art Dubai commissioned projects and explored in The Creative Act, the second exhibition of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection. The role of public art across a city is highlighted by several artists and through projects such as Dubal Walls at City Walk; and a noteworthy number of exhibitions investigate the recent history of art production in the UAE, particularly pertinent since the passing away of Hassan Sharif in 2016.
