opened in 1946, famous for its exotic shows, and where Elvis Presley gave an impromptu concert.[citation needed] Other famous names who have performed there include: Edith Piaf, Sylvie Vartan, Johnny Hallyday, Maurice Chevalier, Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker, Kessler Twins, Elton John, Laurel & Hardy, Dalida, Shirley MacLaine, Mitzi Gaynor and Noël Coward.
In 1946, Joseph and Louis Clerico took over the Lido, a venue that had been very fashionable in the Belle Époque of the 1920s with a décor inspired by Venice and its celebrated Lido beach.
They transformed it from top to bottom to create a one-of-a-kind cabaret.
Many glitteringly successful revues followed, each more spectacular than its predecessor. And for each one, the world’s most glamorous avenue was the scene of a star-studded opening night, attended by the cream of international high society.
In 1958, the Lido show was produced at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. The original contract was for six months. It was extended…for thirty-two years.
But those most celebrated to grace the stage of the Lido de Paris are the famous Bluebell Girls who still provide a spectacular show.
In fact such is the spectacle of Lido de Paris show that over 70 artists perform with over 600 costumes and 23 different sets.
It was my pleasure to interview one of the beautiful dancers: Claire Galtier.
Hi Claire welcome in Dubai. Is it your first time here? “Yes, it is my first time here in Dubai and I’m discovering this wonderful place. We’ll stay here only for 4 days, cause we have a show of Lido Paris at the Cavalli Club”.
How long time have you worked for Lido? “I’ve been in Lido for 8.5 years old: it’s a long time. Lido is for me like my mother’s house: I’m enjoying to dance there and I love my job, I love the place where I’m working, I love the costumes, the music, the choreography and I love the people with I work. I’m really honoured to represent Lido”!
Are you on tour? Yes, we have been in India, Japan, Russia, New York and now in Dubai. In each country, we performer different type of show, of music, of costumes: so many show, so glamour so chic”!
Congratulations for your show: I saw it and it was Amazing! I remember that I saw you also in a famous Italian show, called Chiambretti Night: did you enjoy your experience in Italy? Oh, yes, I did. It was a wonderful experience with Piero Chiambretti. I liked everything: the team, the dancers, the spectacle. I had an amazing time and sometimes I really miss my life in Italy”!
Would you like to come back in Italy, then? Yes, I miss Italy, cause Italy is so cool and Italian people is so nice, fantastic. I have so many friends there”.
