Godolphin’s Hunter’s Light, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa and trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, wins the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 race on Super Saturday at Meydan last night.
“This is incredible, to win the Al Maktoum Challenge and also get the 200th Group 1 winner for Godolphin,” said Bin Surour, struggling to get a hold of his emotions. “I have spent the best part of my life training horses for Godolphin, so to reach this major landmark by winning such an important race is simply amazing. I can’t describe how I feel now. De Sousa added: “this horse is a real favourite of mine as he was my first European group 1 winner last year, and now my first Group 1 winner in UAE.
Bin Suroor saddles four winners on Super Saturday.
“But the job is not yet finished, we will return with Hunter’s Light to contest the Dubai World Cup in three weeks’ time. Hopefully Kassiano will also get a run, but we have to decide.”
Bin Surour went on to score a stunning four-timer at the Super Saturday meeting, with his other wins delivered by Secret Number (Al Bastakiya), African Story (Burj Nahaar) and Sajjhaa (Jebel Hatta).
